Morrisons plans to open thousands more of its Morrisons Daily stores, as the supermarket nears the 500 mark.

The grocer expects to reach over 500 Daily stores by 2023, which is likely to happen towards the end of next year, according to Morrisons wholesale director Paul Dobson.

“Ultimately our ambition is to have stores numbers in the thousands, not the hundreds, in the future and by adding more high-quality retailers we will build those numbers,” Dobson said.

There are currently 486 stores operating under the format across the UK and Channel Islands, in both convenience and forecourt.

Morrisons Daily first launched in 2017 with Rontec.

“Across Great Britain, 35% of the population are now within a 10-minute drive from a Morrisons Daily, which we think is good progress since starting off in 2017,” Dobson added.

The business recently opened a new depot in July in Wakefield that is now servicing 200 stores, with another set to open this year in the Daventry area.

  1. Morrisons are so misrepresenting the truth. Dozens of landlords know the truth. Added to this, there is absolutely no way they are going to open thousands of new stores. There simply isn’t the demand for that many new loccasions. More likely, they hope to adopt symbols traders to their brand. Those businesses should stay well away. Morrisons will drop them like a hot stone as soon as things get difficult.

  2. The ambition is great, but Morrisons wholesale side has not been coping with the M Dailys they already have, so that has to be put right first.

  3. msons have gone very expensive lately. 10-30p on most items but no real change. good quality but the added prices has meant i’ve not bought my usual amount.

  4. I went in a new Morrisons Daily and not only was I underwhelmed. I felt cheated and as a regular Morrisons customer it has put me off the brand. Gone back to Co-Op for my local shop and online for main shop. The increased charge from Supermarket to Daily store I just feel cheated.
